Loan Given with Skills Training Brings the Business Success

In May 2015, a 3 day training course on Techniques for Chicken Raising and Pig Raising was conducted with 226 SHG members (152 females) coming from 85 SHGs in Kratie and Stung Treng.

Self Help Group (SHG) is a joint project between CRDT and HiH which has been operating in Kratie and Stung Treng province since 2012 and have formed 213 SHGs with 2479 members. The project goal is to empower rural entrepreneurial poor to access affordable financial services for sustainable economic development, financial security, living with dignity and a clean environment. The a series of skill trainings such as poultry raising, piggery training, and mushroom training, tailoring and beautician is a part of other activities to achieve the project’s goal.

Responding to the training need of the SHG members, in May 2015, a 3 day training course on Techniques for Chicken Raising and Piggery Raising was conducted with 226 SHG members (152 females) coming from 85 SHGs in Kratie and Stung Treng. The training was conducted in two phases (1) a 2 day class room learning and (2) a half day field practice. The trainers were from the Agriculture Department of Kratie and Stung Treng.

Upon the training completion, most trainees have planned to start new enterprises and strengthen or expand their existing enterprises. Mrs. Sin Samourn said “I am very thankful to CRDT and HiH for providing this skill training. With the knowledge I gained, currently I raise chickens following the techniques. I have 3 coops in total, one coop is for chicks, another one for adult chickens to lay and incubate their eggs, and the other one for protecting all chickens from disease transmission and predators. I also started using vaccine with confidence for all the chickens.”
